BELLA VISTA — The Bella Vista Kiwanis Club meeting will begin with dinner at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Bella Vista Country Club.

Anybody is invited to attend. Dinner, off the Country Club menu, is Dutch treat.

If the evening gathering is successful, it will become a satellite of the main breakfast club and will meet monthly. Both daytime and evening members will be involved in the club’s many community events and fundraisers.

Poinsettia sale

BELLA VISTA — The annual Bella Vista Kiwanis Club poinsettia sale is under way.

The plants, in red, white or salmon, are $10 each and stand 16-20 inches tall. Each will have six to nine blooms.

Plants are being sold by all members of the Bella Vista Kiwanis Club and will be delivered on Dec. 3. Special delivery options are available.

Proceeds from this sale go toward the club’s many community projects.

Submarine veterans

BENTONVILLE — The USS Snook Base of United States Submarine Veterans in northwest Arkansas will host the formal decommissioning ceremony of the Diamond Chapter of Arkansas’ WW II submarine veterans at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Clarion Hotel in Bentonville. Train ride

SELIGMAN, Mo. — All aboard the Seligman train ride to Van Buren, Ark., Saturday, Oct. 10. There are still seats available in the vintage cars. The train will go from Seligman to Van Buren during arts and crafts days in Van Buren, see the beautiful Boston Mountains, cross the rivers 15 times, go though a tunnel and cross three high trestles. 21st Annual Pea Ridge Mule Jump

The 21st annual Pea Ridge Mule Jump will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at Pea Ridge High School. There will be halter class, a stick mule event for children, barrel and flag races, pole bending, hog calling and mule jumping!

The Flying Mule, a 5K run, will precede the event. Registration will begin at 6:45 a.m., with the race starting at 7:30 a.m. Entry fees will be $12 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under.

VFW four person scramble

Big Sugar Golf Club and VFW Post 8109 will hold a four-person scramble at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, with a rainout date set for Sunday, Oct. 11.

Entry is $240 per team or $60 per person. Sign up at Big Sugar Golf Club, Arvest Bank or Community First Bank. No one under 21 years of age please.

Prizes will go to the four closest to pin and the four longest drives. Mulligans will be available for $5, one per nine holes, two per player. There will also be lunch, a silent auction and door prizes.

New Country Music Hall

SELIGMAN, Mo. — Seligman has a new country music hall — Hudson Hall LLC. Owners Johnny and Belinda Hudson opened the music hall on Aug. 8, and they will have a show every other Saturday night, the next show will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.

The music hall is located on Missour Highway 37 north of Seligman just before the city limits. The band is Ozark Mountain Drifters, the best country band in the Ozarks. No alcohol allowed, no smoking inside.

The Hudsons are from Rogers. They play in Bella Vista, and have entertained across the country. The band consists of Johnny Hudson, vocal and rhythm guitar; Vance Monday, steel guitar, fiddle, Dobro; Lila Monday, vocals and percussion; Wayne Kirby, lead guitar and vocals; Darrell May, bass guitar and vocals; Bart O'Neal, vocals, fiddle and guitar; and Chris Bryant, drums and vocals. Concessions are provided. Adult admission $10, $5 children 8-12 and under 8 is free.

Hot Rod Pull

SELIGMAN, Mo. — Mini Hot Rod pull will be at Seligman starting at 1 p m Saturday, Oct. 17, located between Freedom Bank and Ruby’s Liquor on Missouri Highway 37. Booger County Mini Hot Rod association from Huntsville, Ark., will be the main attraction, locals are welcome to come and enter the competition with hot rod lawn mowers or ATV’s. A grudge match will be held, with Sheriff Mick Epperly, pastor Jack Cain, chamber director Neal Stanley, chamber director Susie Temples, chamber director Harold Blair, and tractor pull pro James Townsend.

Yard of the Season

A “Yard of the Season” contest is being sponsored by the Women’s Business Association.

Applications for the fall yard nominations can be picked up at Arvest Bank, Farmers Insurance or Pea Ridge City Hall. Application deadline is Monday, Oct. 19. Winner will receive a $50 gift certificate from The Ground Up Nursery and a “Fall Yard Of The Season” sign to be placed in their yard.

The WBA are sponsors and supporters of the City of Pea Ridge Beautification projects and the Pea Ridge Community Scholarship Foundation. Meetings are at 11:30 a.m. each fourth Thursday of the month in the Arvest Bank front conference room.

5K benefit run

A D.A.S.H. to Remember 5K run/walk will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Ryan Mondy Memorial Tee Ball Field to raise money to benefit the Ryan Mondy Memorial Scholarship. Entry forms are available at Arvest Bank in Pea Ridge and Rush Running in Bentonville. Entry is $15 for the one mile 12 and under, $25 over 12, $25 all ages for the 5K. Participants receive a T-shirt and goody bag.

Driver Safety Course

GARFIELD — A Driver Safety Program sponsored by AARP will be conducting a for all who would like to attend from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, at the NEBCO Community Center in Garfield.

The class is open to all and membership in AARP is not necessary. Cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. Many insurance companies offer a premium discount after completing the course. Steak dinner benefit

BELLA VISTA — Bella Vista American Legion Post 341 will host a ranch style steak dinner from 4-8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Post. The dinner will include steak, all the trimmings and coffee or tea for $10.

The Post is located at 1889 Bella Vista Way, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 71 and Kingsland Road. All proceeds go to the Legion’s building fund. Tickets are available from any Legion member.

The Northwest Arkansas Sacred Harp Singers will hold an old-fashioned singing school at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9. The school will be taught by David Ivey, secretary of the Sacred Harp Musical Heritage Association in Huntsville, Ala.

Exhibit of Oddities Opens

What’s Its, an exhibit of oddities from the Shiloh Museum collections, will open Monday, Oct. 12.

“The exhibit will feature items which were fairly common in the past, but look strange in today’s world,” said Curtis Morris, museum exhibits manager.

What’s Its will be on exhibit through March 27, 2010.

Madison County History Program

Joy Russell, president of the Madison County Genealogical and Historical Society, will present “How Life Changed in Madison County in the 1860s,” at noon Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Accident School Reunion

The Accident School reunion will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24. Accident was a rural school located northeast of Springdale; classes were held there from the 1870s until consolidation with Springdale in 1949. All former Accident School students, teachers, family and friends are invited.

Could you use some extra money at college next year? Thinking about studying agriculture, environmental science or conservation? Then listen up!

As part of a statewide education program, Benton County Conservation District is offering a $250 scholarship for a local high school student, according to Ronnie McGhee, chairman of the district. As well as receiving the District Scholarship, the winner will be eligible to compete at both the area and state level.

The Arkansas Association of Conservation Districts awards three scholarships ($1,000, $750 and $500) based on the student’s essay and oral presentation.

The rules are simple, and the contest is open to all sophomores, juniors and seniors with a minimum 2.0 grade point average who are Benton County residents and will follow a conservation related course of study. Contest entries must be submitted by January 15, 2010, to the Benton County Conservation District at 1401 NE McClain Road, Suite 5, Bentonville, AR 72712.

The parade will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, behind the high school out to Weston Street. From Weston Street, the parade is scheduled to travel down Green Street to Pickens Road, through downtown, in front of Pea Ridge Intermediate School to Davis Street.

Once on Davis, the parade will travel to McIntosh Street and on to Curtis Ave, then turn from North Curtis Avenue onto Mc-Cullouch Street, back to Weston and finish at the high school.
