5th-grade ’Hawks dominated Cardinals

— On Saturday, Oct. 3, the Farmington Cardinals came to Pea Ridge with high hopes of beating the fifthgrade ’Hawks and although the score looks like a close game, the reality is, the ’Hawks dominated. After the first play from scrimmage the score was 6-0 in the ‘Hawks’s favor as Jacob Torres dashed 70 yards for the touchdown. The 2-point conversion was good with Britton Caudill going behind Kamden Boyd and Aron Tuszynski. After a tough defensive stand, allowing only nine yards and forcing a punt, the ’Hawks took over again. The ground attack started to slow for the ’Hawks when quarterback Cole Wright took to the air hitting Michael Schleisman for a 17-yard gain and a first down.

The very next play, Wrightwent 30 yards to Logan Johnson who was tackled on the half-yard line. The next play bruising fullback Caudill scored with ease.

Farmington took over looking for some answers, only to have hopes dashed by Torres with a hard hit forcing a fumble, Seth Trammell recovered. After a Cardinals sack the ’Hawks’ offense charged back up on a nice run by Schleisman for 12 yards.

The next play had Torres going 33 yards off the right side again for the TD. The 2-point conversion was good on the sprint out pass from Wright to Caudill.

With the first half coming to an end the ’Hawks led 22-0.

The Cardinals were able to put together a 70-yard drive for a score as the ’Hawks tried to play a lot of different players. Two offensive penalties helped the Cardinals for the scoreas the half ended.

To start the second half, the ’Hawks stuffed the Cardinals. After taking over on downs, Wright went back to the air, hitting Chandler Tidwell for a 24-yard TD strike. The PAT failed. With little time left in the game, the ’Hawks led 28-6. The Cardinals began to take advantage as the ’Hawks substituted, gaining two more scores, however, Tidwell put any hopes to rest with a powerful run on third and eight gaining nine yards for the first down.

The O-line was led by Boyd, Tuszynski, Brandon Johnson, Jason Frater, Tanner Flippo, Westin Church, Tidwell and Duncan Truesdell. Leading the way at running back was Torres going for 137 yards on eight carries and scoring twice, Caudill and Tidwell also found the end zone. Cole Wright hit four differentreceivers going four of six for 75 yards with a touch down and a two-point conversion.

Also playing well were Dalton Harwell, Hunter Gaston, Jaylee Kelley, Brett Scott, Landon Rhine, George Tyree, Zaine Holley, Hunter Shackelford and Austin Anderson.

The ’Hawks travel to West Fork next week, leading the league at 4-0. West Fork is a very good team that gave the ’Hawks some trouble in the jamboree before the season started.

As the competition gets tougher so do these young ’Hawks.
