SHERIFF’S OFFICE REMINDS TO WEAR SEAT BELTS

With the holidays approaching quickly, Benton County Sheriff Keith Ferguson wants to remind everyone that the Arkansas State Seat Belt Campaign starts Monday, Nov. 23, and runs through Sunday, Nov. 29. Deputies will be enforcing Arkansas seat belt law that states that all occupants must be seat belted, as well as the child restraint law requiring children up to the age of 6 or 60 pounds must be in a child restraint system (car seat) and it must be properly installed in the vehicle. Pickup truck drivers will be subject to citation for allowing any person under 15 years of age to ride in the bed of their truck. Enforcement efforts will include checkpoints and saturation patrols, as well as routine patrols throughout Benton County. Arkansas remains near the bottom of the nation for seat belt use at just over 73 percent.Truck owner belt use is even lower, coming in at just over 60 percent.
