— Holiday closures

Pea Ridge National Military Park will close Jan. 1, 2010, for New Year’s Day and re-open at 8 a.m. Jan. 2.

Pea Ridge National Military Park preserves the site of and commemorates the March 1862 Civil War battle that helped Union forces gain control of Missouri. The park is located 10 miles north of Rogers on US Highway 62.

Fee increase

Pea Ridge National Military Park Acting Superintendent, Kevin Eads, announced the park’s entrance fees will change, starting January 1, 2010, in order to meet NPS fee regulations, which is consistent with other National Park Civil War Battlefields. Fees allow the park to provide interpretative services and facilities, and then maintain them, for park visitors. For example, seasonal park guides, special events and firing of the park’s cannon are all made possible through the collection offees.

The new entrance fee to the park will be $5 per adult or a maximum charge of $10.00 per vehicle and the receipt is honored for seven days. An adult is defined as age 16 and above. Visitors entering the park by motorcycle will be charged $5 per motorcycle. A Pea Ridge annual park pass is available for $20. The Interagency Annual Pass, Senior Pass and Access Pass are honored and sold/issued at the visitor center.
