Ridger Sports Senior ’Hawks take Shiloh

— While the varsity basketball team make have four losses, all four losses have come against larger or out-of-state schools.

Against 4A or 3A sized schools, the record is still clean after handling Shiloh and Greenland last week.

The boys are in the Southwest Holiday Tournament next week in Washburn, Mo. While I haven’t seen a bracket yet, I have heard that Aurora will be in the mix along with most of the usual.

Cassville, a regular participant in the tournament, is just coming off a state championship in football this fall. Webb City, a team that the ’Hawks fought a tough battle with in theRogers tournament, was a state football finalist in a higher class than Cassville. Cassville has some athletes this year and may be a formidable foe in this year’s hoopfest.

The ’Hawks are coming off back to back championships in this particular tournament.

YCB teams looking good

From what reports I have heard, the local Youth Competitive Basketball teams are posting overall winning recordsthrough the first three games of the season. It also seems that five of the 12 squads are still undefeated heading into the new year.

While the YCB team participants are from Pea Ridge schools, the school is not a sponsor or administrator of the program.

The district does allow the use of the gym for home games and for practices, but the costs of the uniforms, T-shirts, awards and other incidentals come from money raised through student fees, gate fees and concession income.

There will be more home games in January and it would be great for local roundball fans to come out and root forthe Little ’Hawks. Game schedules are: 8:30 a.m., 4th-grade girls B; 9:20 a.m. 4th-grade girls A; 10:10 a.m. 4th-grade boys B; 11 a.m. 4th-grade boys A;

11:50 a.m. 5th-grade girls B; 12:40 p.m. 5th grade girls A; 1:30 p.m. 5th-grade boys B; 2:20 p.m. 5th-grade boys A; 3:10 p.m. 6th-grade girls B; 4 6th-grade girls A; 4:50 p.m. 6th-grade boys B; and 5:40 p.m. 6th-grade boys A.

The above schedule is tentative in that it will be accurate if there are not any overtime games, any games with lots and lots of fouls, or any games delayed for any other reason. One game will end and the next begins until all 12 are played.
