My name is: J.J. Wright I am in a cafeteria cook at the Middle School. I am a native of northwest Arkansas.

I have been in food service for 3 years. I have been in food service in Pea Ridge for 3 years. Something interesting about me is: I have a 3-year-old little boy and I love animals. We have four dogs, one cat, about 20 chickens and some rabbits.

My name is: Sherree Clark I am in a cafeteria cook at the Middle School. I am a native of Forrest City. I have been in food service for 20 years. I have been in food service in Pea Ridge for 2 years. Something interesting about me is: I like to fish and work in the garden.

My name is: Nancy Townsend I am in a cafeteria cook at the Middle School. I am a native of Benton County.

I have been in food service for 11 years. I have been in food service in Pea Ridge for 10 years. Something interesting about me is: I have four children who attended Pea Ridge schools from K-12 grades.

My name is: Kathy Buttry I am in a cafeteria cook at the Middle School. I am a native of Arkansas. I have been in food service for 7 1/2 years. I have been in food service in Pea Ridge for 4 1/2 years. Something interesting about me is: I’m a widow with five boys, 22 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. SCHOOL NEWS

Hall awarded scholarship

Ariel Briana Ray Hall of Pea Ridge has received a Second Century Scholar award from Arkansas Tech University, beginning with the fall Hall 2010 semester. She is the daughter of Sam and Mary Hall and is planning on majoring in early childhood education. She attends Pea Ridge High School, is a student council member, top 10 in her class, member of SEEK and student ambassador.

PTO for High School

Pea Ridge High School plans to facilitate a Parent-Teacher Organization group. If interested in helping to organize a PTO for PRHS, contact Rhonda Daniels at rdaniels@prs. k12.ar.us.

The Parent Involvement Committee of Pea Ridge High School is asking parents to take a very short, online survey to help better serve the students’ parents. Go to the Pea Ridge Schools website, www.prs. k12.ar.us, and click on the High School page. ORATORICAL CONTEST

The Pea Ridge Optimist Club is encouraging area students to speak their minds about the topic of “Cyber Communication: Progress or Problem?” as part of the Optimist International Oratorical Contest for 2010.

The Optimist Club will judge the local students’ speeches based on content and presentation to determine the top winners. Winners will receive U.S. Savings Bonds at the following levels: First place – $500; second place – $350; and third place – $100. The winning speeches will be sent to the zone level, and possibly district level for the opportunity to college scholarships.

Students under the age of 16 as of Dec. 31, and live within the Pea Ridge School district (public, private and homeschooled), are eligible to participate.

The deadline to hand in speeches is Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010. Students wishing to participate in the oratorical contest can find out more about the contest by contacting Denise Pollock at 426-3415.
