The Pea Ridge junior class play, entitled “Off the Track,” was presented at the high school Dec. 19. The play was directed by two high school teachers, Mrs. Beebe and Mrs. Embry, and concerned a strange and conglomerate mixture of people thrown together when a fast train is derailed.

Mrs. Nellie Green was struck by a car at the intersection of Arkansas Highways 72 and 94 in downtown Pea Ridge. She apparently stepped into the street in the path of a car turning north on State Hwy. 94. Mrs. Green was taken by Sisco Ambulance to Bates Memorial Hospital in Bentonville where she was treated and released.

A five-room modern house with attached garage and two and 63 hundredths acres of land on the top of Sugar Creek Hill on the east side of State Hwy. 94 was listed for sale in the classifieds for $7,500.

Mayors of a group of cities in northwest Arkansas, including Benton County, attempted to call together a delegation to go to Little Rock and meet with Gov. Bill Clinton to discuss the possibilities of instituting a one percent sales tax in the area with the income to go to the cities.

Private Linda J. Weimer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul G. Weimer of Garfield, completed a personnel records specialist course at Fort Jackson, S.C. Weimer was a 1979 graduate of Pea Ridge High School.

Parker Mountain Bluegrass Band, a group that featured Pea Ridger Bill McGuire on fiddle and mandolin, as well as vocally, won six awards at the annual Society for Bluegrass Music Preservation in America awards show in Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.

The Pea Ridge City Council voted unanimously to establish a municipal court with the city of Lowell. Lowell city officials approved the two-city venture two days earlier.

Joel Buss of Garfield placed fourth in the children’s division of the Ozark Mountain Music’s second annual talent contest.

The Pea Ridge basketball teams hadn’t been met with much success, but coach Larry Walker believed they were maturing and expected better results after the Christmas holiday. The senior boys lost to Gravette in the Gentry tournament and Gentry’s senior girls also beat the Lady Blackhawks.

In a 30 minute meeting, Pea Ridge City Council passed resolutions and an ordinance and took care of routine business before adjourning in record time. They accepted the resignation of the librarian, approved a water line extension, appointed Howard Slinkard as city attorney and Richard Hardwicke as city prosecutor and amended the budget.

Pea Ridge High School science teacher David Wentz spoke of loving his job in an interview and hoped to pass enthusiasm about chemistry along to his students.

Brightwater Memorial United Methodist Church on U.S. Hwy. 62 between Avoca and Garfield will present a Christmas Program at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20.

Christmas Eve Service is at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 24.

There will be a candlelight service at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve, Thursday, Dec. 24.

The Ladies Ministry Christmas party will be held Saturday, Dec. 19.

Pea Ridge Church of the Nazarene, Pea Ridge

A live nativity will be featured from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, and Tuesday, Dec. 22, in front of the church.

Messiah Lutheran Church, Pea Ridge

Messiah Lutheran is celebrating the Advent season with service at 7 p.m. each Wednesday. The children’s ministry on Wednesday will begin at 6 p.m. We are currently meeting in AfterSchool Day Care at 813 Slack St.

New Prospect Baptist Church, Garfield

Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church, Pea Ridge

The Christmas Eve candlelight service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24, in the sanctuary.

We will once again adorn our sanctuary with the beauty of Christmas poinsettias. You may purchase a plant for $9 and pick it up after Dec. 28.
