— U.S. Post Offices

The local branches of the U.S. Post Office will close their operations for Christmas at noon on Thursday, Dec. 24. Regular Post Office retail hours and full delivery operations will resume Saturday, Dec. 26, until Thursday, Dec. 31 at noon for New Year Eve and Day. Regular operation will again resume on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010.

City Halls

City halls at Pea Ridge, Garfield, Gateway and Avoca will be closed Thursday and Friday, Dec. 24 and 25, for Christmas. The offices will also be closed Friday, Jan. 1, for New Year’s Day.

Benton County Offices

Benton County government offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, Dec. 24 and 25, for Christmas.

The TIMES of Northeast Benton County

The TIMES office will close at noon Christmas Eve.

SELIGMAN, Mo. — There were 23 competing entries in the annual Christmas parade and many floats which did not compete for a prize. According to city officials, Santa Claus saw 164 children after the parade and gave treat bags to each child. There were 10 gallons of hot cocoa and hundreds of cookies shared by community members attending the parade.

Winners of the awards for floats were:

1st — Mozark Fellowship

2nd — New Hope Assembly of God

3rd — K&K Lawn and Excavation.

Secular floats:

1st — Southwest Trap Team 2nd — Southwest fifth grade – “Taking up the torch of literacy” 3rd — Seligman Coon Hunters Club

Marching Units:

1st — Southwest Marching Band 2nd — Southwest Flag team

Animal Units:

1st — Southwest FFA horses Motorcycles and off-road vehicles: 1st — Hendrix Little Kids

Antique Vehicle:

1st — Elizabeth Teyha Ross, 1930 AA Ford

Late Model Vehicle:

1st — Rose Enterprises, Tro Trax RC Vehicles
