10:43 p.m. As a result of attempting to make a traffic stop, police issued a citation to Ronald Shelton, 28, of Pea Ridge, for fleeing and no seat belt in use.

9:15 p.m. Police were notified by dispatch of a white Chevrolet pickup traveling into the city on Arkansas Highway 94 from Rogers with a possibly intoxicated driver.The vehicle was located and stopped at Fred’s on North Curtis Avenue.The driver, Brandon Sizemore, 25, Pea Ridge, was arrested for DWI and endangering the welfare of a minor as he had young children in the vehicle.

10:10 a.m.The mother of a 16-year-old girl reported her daughter was missing. At 3:45 p.m., the mother arrived at the police station with the daughter reporting that the daughter said she’d been hiding at school all day.

11:55 p.m. A resident on Watie Street reported a rifle had been stolen from his house.There was no visible sign of forced entry.

Incidents reported to Arkansas State Police in the northeast Benton County area recently included: Thursday, Dec. 3

3:35 a.m. A one-vehicle accident involving a 2006 Peterbilt, driven by Richard Baker, 47, of Fort Smith, which traveled off the eastbound side of the U.S. Hwy. 62 in Garfield.

Baker was approaching Wimpy Jones Road and entering a left-hand curve. The vehicle struck a highway sign and two business signs, then struck a tree, causing damage to the trailer and scattering the load along the road.

The driver was taken to Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville.

The spilled load did not consist of hazardous materials.

Monday, Dec. 7

7:12 a.m. John Berkley of Pea Ridge was cited for passing a stopped school bus on Arkansas Highway 72 near Mariano Road west of Pea Ridge by state police.

State police have increased patrols on State Hwy. 72 west of town recently because of increased reports of reckless drivers and several accidents, including a double fatality, officials said.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office’s participation in this year’s Clik-It-or-Ticket campaign over the Thanksgiving holiday ended Sunday, Nov. 29, with multiple arrests and several citations issued.

Although seatbelt citations seemed lower than years past, Sheriff Keith Ferguson and his deputies believe there are still too many drivers not buckling up. He reminded citizens that seatbelt usage can and does save lives.

Statistics for the holiday’s mobilization included 848total traffic stops resulting in a total of 39 citations issued and six arrests. The breakdown of citations is: 21 seatbelt violations; one child restraint violation; four suspended driver’s license violations; three no insurance violations; 10 no driver’s license violations; four misdemeanor arrests and two felony arrests.

Although the stepped up efforts have ended, deputies will continue to scan the roadways of Benton County for non-compliance of the state’s seatbelt statute.
