Messiah Lutheran Church Sunday School starts at 9:30 and worship service is at 10:30. Youth fellowship is on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Rev. John and Stacey Gibson are holding a “White Elephant” Christmas party for the congregation at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at their home. Beverages are furnished, bring a light snack and a White Elephant gift to exchange.

The Christmas Eve candlelight service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24 in the sanctuary.

The first pet to be buried in the Critters’ Cemetery was the beloved old hound dog, Strike, who died at the age of 16. Strike belonged to Enoch Patterson, and was said to have treed many a coon, squirrel and ’possum back in the days when he was a hunting companion.

G.A. Boucher, president of the Beefmaker Cattle Company and the Boucher Land and Livestock Company of Favenna, Neb., purchased the Post Ranch, at 12,000 acre property in Garfield. The property was sold by Carl Post, who resided in Naples, Fla.

In an ad for a Christmas gift subscription of the Pea Ridge Graphic, readers could purchase one year’s worth of delivery as a gift for $3 in Benton and surrounding counties and $4 elsewhere.

The Pea Ridge sewer program moved a step nearer to construction when the Arkansas Department of Local Services, Little Rock, advisory council approved a $50,000 loan to the city toward the project.

In the police report, it was noted that many people were being good in anticipation of the arrival of Santa Claus, but still six tickets were issued by Pea Ridge during that week.

Three were citations for speeding, one was driving too fast for conditions, one for drinking in public and one for a driver on a restricted driver’s license without an adult present in the vehicle.

In the editorial section titled Bouquets and Brickbats,readers issued bouquets (approval) to those in Pea Ridge who decorated their homes and the town for Christmas and threw brickbats at the ones who let the appearance of their homes detract from the town of Pea Ridge’s appearance.

The Pea Ridge High School Vocational Industrial Club built and presented four sets of bunk beds to Souls Harbor in Rogers.

Avoca Christian Church provided the materials.

A burglary at Pea Ridge Elementary School resulted in recovery by area authorities of thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise.

A minor was arrested on felony burglary charges.

According to Pea RidgeMarshal Sam Holcomb and alderman F. Joe Hart, the speed limits in and around the city of Pea Ridge would soon see a change. Concern over the amount of traffic sparked the request for change. The city made a request to state officials for seven locations to be altered, included moving the 55 mph markers to be moved further outside of city limits. The current speed limit through residential and business areas of 40 and 35 mph did not change.

In a move to stop problems before they start, the Pea Ridge School Board voted not to install lockers in the new high school and have students carry clear or mesh book bags.

Garfield City Council approved a 2000 budget of $208,723.35. They also passed an ordinance to appoint a city attorney, not elect one, and then reappointed Howard Slinkard into the position.

A fire at the intersection of Ark. Hwy. 72 and It’ll Do Road caused damage to three buildings, owned by B.J. White. Two buildings were a total loss. Another, which housed a pawn shop and video store, sustained considerable smoke and heat damage.

Members of the Pea Ridge Headstart class and their teachers took first place in the Christmas Parade with their float “Christmas at Granny’s House.”
