DECATUR — Townhall Meetings The Decatur School District will hold regular

Townhall meetings, in place of school board meet

ings, at 7 p.m., the third Monday of the month in the

high school cafeteria.

Decatur Schools School pictures for students sixth through

eleventh grade will be taken on Aug. 31. School pic

tures for students in pre-kindergarten through fifth

grade will be on Sept. 3, and senior pictures will be

taken on Sept. 8. Decatur schools will be closed Sept.

7 for the Labor Day holiday.

Decatur Youth Sports Decatur Youth Sports will have flag football for

first through third graders and tackle football for

third through sixth graders. They will also have

cheerleading for first through third graders. Football

practice for third through sixth graders will be held

at 7 p.m., on Thursdays at the high school football

field. Children do not have to attend Decatur Pub

lic Schools to participate in the programs. For more

Awana Fall Kickoff First Baptist Church in Decatur will kick off its

Wednesday evening Awana program with a hot dog

supper at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 2. Regular

Wednesday meeting times will be from 6:25 to 8

p.m. The church bus is available to pick up those

needing a ride. Call 752-3514 for more information or

to arrange a ride.

Head Start Decatur Head Start is now accepting applications

for the 2009-2010 school year. Head Start is a free

comprehensive program for 3 to 5 year olds who

meet eligibility requirements. Priority is given to

those from lower income families and to children

with disabilities. For an application, stop by the De

Music in the Park Music in the Park meets at 7 p.m. on the first and

third Saturday nights of the month throughout the

warm months. There is a public address system this

year, and musicians and bands are encouraged to

Farmers' Market The Decatur Farmers' Market is open in Veterans

Park throughout the summer on Fridays and Sat

urdays and on Saturday evenings during Acoustic

Jam. The market is free to vendors this year. For

VFW Meetings The Gentry/Decatur VFW Post meets on the first

Tuesday of each month - at 7:30 p.m. during the

summer and at 7 p.m. during the winter. New mem

bers and guests are welcome. The facility is 3 miles

east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on

Tilly's Hill Road, and the first building on the right.

Council Meetings City council meetings are held at 6 p.m., the second Monday of each month in the council room at city hall, and are open to the public. For more information, call 752-3912.

Decatur Library

Decatur library hours are 3:30 to 7 p.m., Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3:30 to 7 p.m., on Wednesdays.

Food Pantry

The Decatur food pantry is open from 5 to 7 p.m.

on Thursdays. The pantry offers free nonperishable food to Decatur residents and is located at the United Methodist Church in Decatur. Participants need to bring an ID showing they have a 72722 zip code.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. Refreshments are served and everyone is welcome. The church is located west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Tired Iron of the Ozarks Fall Show

Tired Iron of the Ozarks will hold its 18th annual fall show and swap meet Sept. 11, 12 and 13, on its show grounds at 13344 Taylor Orchard Rd., Gentry.

Antique tractors, engines, farm equipment, black smithing, a saw mill and other antique household goods will be on display with live demonstrations.

The show begins about 8 a.m. each day and continues until dark. A parade of power is held each day at noon.

Highfill Hay Daze

Highfill Hay Daze is set for Saturday, Sept. 12, in the Highfill City Park located at the corner of South Main and Fourth Street. Events planned for the day are listed below:

◊Pancake Breakfast - Senior Citizens fund raising from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Community Building.

◊Parade at 9 a.m., with lineup at the Highfill Cemetery at 8:30 a.m.

◊Live Music all day - Highfill Baptist Church from 10 a.m. to 12 noon; Gerald Edmondson from noon until 4 p.m.; and Left of Center from 6 p.m. until dusk.

◊Silent Auction from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

◊Car Show starting at 10 a.m., with judging at 3 p.m. (pre-registration is requested by Sept. 5, but entrants may register on the day of the show).

◊Tiny Tot Contest at 11 a.m. (casual dress) - Division One, ages 2 and 3, and Division Two, ages 4 and 5, with winners of each division competing for the Mister and Miss Highfill Hay Daze Tiny Tot (register by Sept. 5, entry fee is a $5 donation, which will be given to www.hannahshopefoundation.org.)

◊Fire Muster at 1 p.m.

◊Miss Highfill Hay Daze (ages 16-18) and Teen Miss Highfill Hays Daze (ages 13-15) Pageants begin at 4 p.m. Entrants must register by Sept. 5. The entry fee is $25.

◊Fireworks at dusk - provided by the town of Highfill.

◊Pony rides, games, Bounce House, giant slide, food and craft vendors, face painting, and animals from the Wild Wilderness Safari - all day.

Tornado sirens are tested at 10 a.m., the first Saturday of each month.
