GARFIELD — Investigating the possibility of providing better benefits for their employees, members of the VAS Ambulance Service Corporation finance committee listened to an insurance representative Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Michael Moseley of Liberty National Life Insurance Company presented several policy options to committee members Dorothy Williams, Wes Baker and Sharon Barnett.

Moseley said the company was established in 1900, was primarily in the south and east, but expanded nationwide in 2008.

Coverages discussed included hospital intensive care, accidental death and a cancer policy.

In other business, it was reported that $3,157 was spent repairing the second ambulance unit and that, with other repairs for a total of about $7,200 VAS would have a very good second ambulance.

"Nobody's done anything with that for years," Baker said. "That's why it was in such bad a shape as it was."

Williams questioned the need for tires, but was told the tires were good, fully-studded tires.

"I'd like to see us use the second unit at least twice a week.

Bring that up at the next meeting," Baker told Williams.

Baker also told fellow committee members that the collection agency which was hired was doing an excellent job.

The next regular board meeting was set for Tuesday, Aug. 11.
