A public meeting was called for Sept. 11 in Pea Ridge's Elementary School's cafetoria to hear a discussion on the proposed regional airport.

The first gas war in the history of Garfield was going on at the time.

Real estate ads listed a fiveacre tract off Arkansas Highway 94 selling for $2,200.

Application to the Department of Finance and Administration, State of Arkansas, for funds for the construction of a building to house the Avoca Volunteer Fire Department equipment was submitted.

Hazelton presented Park Commission chairman Bob Harp with a check for $500, representing the proceeds from the recent bike ride sponsored by Beta Alpha and Alpha Nu sororities.

An effort to raise funds to contribute to the operation of the Pea Ridge Library, and aimed specifically at having it re-open Wednesdays, came to life that week with the deposit of the first contributions.

Pea Ridge School District superintendent Marvin Higginbottom said approval of a 9.7-mil increase in property taxes would allow the district to save money in the long run.

Pea Ridge High School quarterback Joel Easterling gave instruction to the offense during the first workout in pads Friday. The Blackhawks had until Sept. 1 to prepare for their first game with Gravette at Gravette.

Airman A.R. Sellars Jr., son of Wanda R.. Sellars of Seligman, Mo., graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Teachers began in-service training Monday and students returned Thursday for the last school year of the millennium.

Rob Neblock poured concrete for footings at the site of the new Pea Ridge High School. The school was expected to be completed in 2000.

Navy Seaman Chad W.

Collins, son of Jerry W. and Jackie L. Collins, of Pea Ridge, changed home ports as a crew member aboard the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land.

The USS Emory S. Land left its former home port in Norfolk, Va., to make La Maddelenda, Italy, its new home.
