AL' MATEEN ALI (Vivian Davis), 75, of Little Rock, Ark., departed this life on August 6, 2009. She graduated from Dunbar High School in 1951. She attended Dillard University in New Orleans, La. She was a former employee for the Internal Revenue Department as a Supervisor in Los Angeles, Calif. She's survived by four sisters: Rasheedah Rahmaan, Musheerah Tharpe, Thelma Cole and Maryam Nu'man and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. JEANETTE WOLFE ALLSBURY, 87, of Little Rock, died Monday, August 10, 2009. She was born September 27, 1921, in Beulah, Michigan, to The Rev. Arthur Whiting Wolfe and Edith Stoddard Wolfe. She was a graduate of Emporia (Park College), Kansas, and taught in Waupun, Wisconsin, for 25 years, in both elementary and middle school. She was very active in the United Church of Christ.

Ms. Allsbury is survived by her son, John Allsbury and wife Kris; grandchildren, Lin Sorrentino and husband Sean, Scott and wife Sheila; and great-grandchildren, William and Gregory; daughter, Jeanette Bonnell and husband George; grandchildren, Christian and Morgan; daughter, Catherine Allsbury and husband Jim Miller; and her sister, Alice Ward. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, William Wolfe and one sister, Mary Wolfe Brock.

There will be a memorial service 10 a.m., Thursday, August 13, 2009, at Second Presbyterian Church with a reception to follow. SMSGT. FRANKLIN DEE BALLEW JR., (Ret) 51, of Sherwood passedaway on Monday, August 10, 2009. He was born on October 21, 1957, to Franklin Ballew Sr. and Shirlean (Jenkins) Ballew in Lincoln, Nebraska. Franklin was a retired loadmaster instructor in the Arkansas AirNational Guard and spent over 27 years proudly serving his country. He loved the outdoors and was an avid deerhunter and fisherman. He was a member of the G & L Hunting Club. Frank most valued the time with his family and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Patricia; his sons Brian and Joel; his daughters Maria, Jamie and Crystal; his mother Shirlean; his brother Robert; eight grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends all who will miss him dearly. His father preceded him in death.

Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice in Franklin's name.

WAYNE L. BIRCHLER, 54, of Jacksonville, died Friday, August 7,2009. He was born February 27, 1955, in Granite City, Illinois. Sgt. Birchler retired as a flight engineer instructor with the U.S. Air Force. Afterward he worked as a quality control inspector at Dassault Falcon Jet.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Rose Birchler. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Katherine Alvis Birchler; a daughter, Angela and her husband, Ian White; two granddaughters, Hayleigh and Ashleigh White. Also surviving him are his stepchildren who he loved as his own, Aimee, Jeanine and James; and step-grandchildren, Paige and Austin, Katherine, Christopher, and Alyse.

LEONE CONNOR, 68, of Sherwood passed away Sunday, August 9,2009. She was a member of First Pentecostal Church of North Little Rock. She loved everyone and enjoyed helping people.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Porter Connor, of Sherwood; daughter,Pam (Rick) Wheeler, of North Little Rock; two sons, Paul (Gail) Connor, of Sherwood and Kevin (Gina) Connor, of Beebe; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Rayford Swint and wife, Cathy, of Stuttgart; sister, Nettie Watts, of Sherwood; and a host of extended sons, daughters and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Ruth Swint; and her brother, Donald Swint.

ANDREW THOMAS GASTON JR., 89, of North Little Rock passed awayMonday, August 10, 2009. A.T. was born on March 25, 1920, in Chidester, Arkansas, to Andrew Thomas Sr. and Rosa Bradley Gaston. A.T. was a graduate of Chidester High School and went on to serve his countryin the Air Force. A.T. retired from the V.A. hospital as the administrative officer of Radiology. He was a man of the outdoors where he spent many an hour hunting, fishing, and camping.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years Juanita Lusby Gaston, daughter-in-law, Sherrie Gaston, grandchildren Andrew Thomas IV and wife Rene, Gwendolyn Flair andhusband Robert, great-grandchildren, Robert Flair III, Danielle Flair, Joshua Gaston, and Andrew Gaston V. A.T. was preceded in death by his son Andrew Thomas Gaston III (Tommy), Brother James Clingan, sister, Daisy Clingan Patterson.

ALEXANDRA "ALLY" MARIE GIMON, 19, of Little Rock passed awayMonday, August 10, 2009, at Arkansas Children's Hospital surrounded by family and friends. Ally was born January 23, 1990, in Houston, Texas. She attended Pulaski Academy and Central High Schools and was a memberof Christ the King Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Betty Floyd; grandfather, Michael Gimon; and uncle, Gary Gimon. Survivors include her mother, Donna Floyd of Little Rock; father, Ron Gimon and his wife, Denise of Charlotte, N.C.; grandfather, Don Floyd of Cherokee Village; grandmother, Phyllis Gimon of Pittsburgh, Pa.; aunt, Marty Floyd and her husband Bill Goff of Little Rock; cousin, Lindsey Moore of Little Rock and many friends in Little Rock and Charlotte, N.C.

In Ally's short time on earth, she touched her family and friends with her love, kind heart, great spirit and generous soul. Ally lit up the world with her beautiful smile. She loved animals, spent time volunteering at the Humane Society and planned to become a veterinarian. Although we grieve our loss, Ally will live on with her unselfish gift of life to others through organ donation. Ally has become a guardian angel for those who loved and cherished her.

PAUL GENE HUMPHREY, 66, of North Little Rock, died Monday,August 10th, 2009, after years of battling heart disease. He was born to the late Edgar and Audrey Humphrey in Idabel, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Doyle Humphrey and sisters, BeaReynolds and Christine Morgan. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, of the home; son, Cary and daughterin-law, Michelle and four beautiful granddaughters, Meghan, Erin, Emily and Faith all of Rochester, Massachusetts; his sister Patricia Ferguson of Chickasha, Oklahoma and brothers, James Humphrey of Dallas, Texas, and Harold Humphrey of Mission, Texas. His first wife, Sandye Humphrey of North Little Rock also survives him.

DAVID R. "RANDY" MOORE of Little Rock, age 60, ended his valiant struggle of more than ten years with spinal and brain cancer on August 11, 2009. Although the battle was sometimes formidable, Randy and Karen were blessed to have the love and support of so many during this long fight - family, friends,healthcare professionals, etc. For this, we are truly grateful.

Randy was born on October 18, 1948 in El Dorado, Arkansas. He graduated from El Dorado High School in 1966.He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1968-1971. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1976 and has remained a loyal Sooners fan throughout the years.

Randy worked for AT&T, Systematics, later Alltel Information Services, and Pegasus before his health forced him to retire in 2006. He attended St. James United Methodist Church and loved the Saturday Night Service. Randy maintained an incredible attitude throughout his illness and his faith and sense of humor helped him and those around him have smiles to the very end. He was a fabulous cook and loved to travel and make people smile. He loved music - from rock and roll to classical to bluegrass gospel - he had an appreciation for it all.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Senator W.D. "Bill" and Juanita Moore. He is survived by his wife and soul-mate, Karen Huber, brothers Bill (Marge) Moore of Houston, Texas, Dennis Moore of Waco, Texas, and sister Janis Lentz of McAllen, Texas. He is also survived by nieces: Leah (Glenn) Slaven of Baytown, Texas, Diana (Dea) Everett of Victoria, Wash., Karrie Huber of Fayetteville, Ark., and nephews: Drew Lentz of McAllen, Texas, Peter (Christina) Lentz of San Antonio, Texas, and Kasper Huber of Fayetteville, Ark. In addition he is survived by mother-in-law, Katharine Huber and brother-in-law Barry (Glinda) Huber, all of Jonesboro, Ark., great-nieces Katie Slaven and Emma Lentz and great-nephews Brandon and Andrew Lentz, as well as several cousins. He also leaves many special friends and his dogs Sophie and Lucy, who will miss him so very much.

A celebration of Randy's life will be held at St. James UMC on Thursday, August 13 at 3 p.m., officiated by Rev. Greg Schick. In honor of Randy's favorite church service, please come dressed casually, preferably in bright colors. Afterwards the family will joyfully receive people at the home (4006 Valley View Drive). Please feel free to join us for both or either to celebrate Randy's wonderful life!

ELINOR K. ROYCE, 78, of Little Rock died Monday, August 10, 2009. Shewas born on October 12, 1930, in Cushing, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Garrett Anson Keeling and Elinor Grace Robinson. She was an accomplished vocalist, pianist, and organist. She was a founding member of the Arkansas Chamber Singers and sang at both Clinton Presidential Inaugurations. She was also a former member of the Arkansas Opera Theatre, the Arkansas Children's Opera Theatre, and the National Association of Music Teachers. She shared her gift of music through her church as the director of the Joyful Noise Children's Choir, member of the Angelus Hand Bell Choir, and song leader of Saturday night worship services. Other volunteer activities include the Caring Hands ministry and prison ministry.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Troy Keeling and Bill Keeling. She is survived by three sons, David Royce of Little Rock, Garrett Royce (Lucinda) of Tacoma, Washington and Joseph Royce of Little Rock; two daughters, Cassandra Barnett (Philip) of Fayetteville and Suzanne Carlisle (Jerry) of Little Rock; four grandsons, Joshua Royce (Lindsay) of Tacoma, Washington, Christopher Britt of Centennial, Colorado, Jared Royce of Tacoma, Washington andMaxwell Barnett of Fayetteville.

BEEBE - Ruby Estelle Hefner, 89, of Beebe, Arkansas, was born August 29, 1919 at Beebe, Arkansas to Albert and Willie Woods Davis, and passed away August 11, 2009. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Porter Hefner; her parents, and seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by two daughters, Stella Jean Duncan (Jim) of Tennessee, Phyllis Jardine (Bob) of Beebe, Arkansas and two grandchildren.

BENTON - Jordyn Marie Haskin, infant daughter of Stephen and Alisa Haskin of Benton, Ark., passed away Saturday, August 8, 2009. Born July 28, 2009, she was loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed.

HOT SPRINGS - Dewey Alan Thurman, age 60, of Hot Springs, diedFriday, August 7, 2009 at a local hospital. He was born May 24, 1949 in Hot Springs. He retired from the Corps of Engineer after 28 years of service and was a veteran of the United States Army.

TAMO - Stanley Ward Bitely, PhD, EDd, 48, a lifelong resident of Tamo (Jefferson County), died Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock.

Ward was born December 23, 1960, in Jefferson County, the son of the late Stanley and Imogene Shults Bitely. He was reared and received his education in Grady, where he graduated from Grady High School in 1979. He attended Ouachita Baptist University, University of Central Arkansas at Conway, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and the Royal Academy at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

Ward was a band director at Coal Hill Public Schools, McGehee High School, Magnet Cove Public School, and Henderson Middle School in Little Rock until his retirement in 2006. He was also an Adjudicator for Drum-Corps International.

He was a lifelong member of Linwood Baptist Church in Tamo, where he had served as music director. He was also a member of the Arkansas School Bands and Orchestra Association.

He is survived by his sisters, Elaine Freeman and her husband Denny of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Nina Bitely of Grady; four nieces and nephews, Matthew McBryde and his wife Denise of Mabelvale; Amber McBryde Usrey and her husband Brian of Marion; Carey Lee Freeman of Edmond, Oklahoma; and Casey Lyn Freeman of Irving, Texas; and a great niece, Sabrina Usrey of Marion.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 12, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Robinson's.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, August 13, 2009, 10:30 a.m., at Linwood Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Nicholson Cemetery at Tamo.

TRASKWOOD - William "Edwin" Benning, 72, of Traskwood, died Sunday, August 9, 2009. He was a soldier, husband, father, grandfather, educator, administrator, retiree and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents William "Babe" Benning and Thelma Benning; and a sister, Betty AnnDavis.

He is survived by former spouse, Joyce Benning of Hot Springs Village; one son, Mark Benning and wife Jennifer of Bryant; two daughters, Carmen Crawford and husband Reynolds of Denver, Colorado; Jennifer Nix and husband Franklin of Traskwood; two sisters, Laura Lee Benning of Malvern; Judy Bradford of Little Rock; six grandchildren, Alex, Abby, Madeline, Morgan, Austin and Sara; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

He served in the United States Army from 1954-1957. Upon completion of duty, he obtained a Bachelors Degree from Henderson State University and a Masters Degree from the University of Arkansas. He taught high school English at Bauxite High School. While he was there he developed the Honor's English Program, served as Senior Sponsor and was the announcer for all of the Miner home football games. In 1980, he became an area supervisor for the Arkansas Department of Education. He retired from education as the Director of Federal Programs for the Helena-West Helena School District. He also retired as a Master Sergeant in the United States Army Reserve. He was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan, enjoyed traveling the globe, a remarkable movie trivia expert and loved Frank Sinatra. So much so that he would say, "If Sinatra doesn't sing it, I don't listen to it."

TEXARKANA, Texas - Maurice H. "Chief" King age 90, of Texarkana,Texas, formerly of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, died Monday, August 10, 2009, in a local hospital. Mr. King was born October 3, 1918, in Paragould, Arkansas, and lived in Philadelphia for the past 53 years. He was a retired ChiefPetty Officer for the United States Navy after serving his country for 30 years. He was a veteran of World War II and was at the U.S. Naval Station in Hawaii during the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. Following the attack he served aboard the air craft carriers U.S.S. Saratoga and U.S.S. Monterey in the South Pacific throughout the remainder of the war. He later moved into the submarine service and was in New London, Connecticut, for a tour of duty and finished his naval career at the Philadelphia Naval Station in Philadelphia. He was a Protestant and a Mason.

He was preceded in death by his wife Olga King. He is survived by his three sons who were all at his bedside as he went to be with the Lord.The sons and daughters-in-law are: Maurice H. "Buddy" and Mary King of Texarkana, Texas; Kenneth Duane and Elizabeth King of Chanhassen, Minnesota; Stephen Maurice and Cindi King of Stevensville, Maryland; one sister; Irene Thornburg of Torrance, California; eight grandchildren; Jason, Jessica, Sara, Ashley, Danielle, Chyra, Don and Jeffery; one great-granddaughter; Mary Kate and a host of friends and other relatives.
