Hall Pass on school agenda People step up for name committee

— A method for identifying visitors to the schools - Hall Pass by CompuData - will be considered by the Pea Ridge School Board at their meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10.

The student drug testing policy as well as the naming/renaming buildings policy will both be presented under old business. Both policies have been presented to the board over the past several months.

School Board members have reviewed several variations of drug policies, considered whom to test and heard presentations from companies which provide the screening. Students involved in extracurricular activities, including but not limited to band, choir, athletics, were considered. No action has yet been taken on the proposed policy.

At the April board meeting, members of the Pea Ridge Historical Society appeared before the board asking to name the new primary school after Miss Nannie Roberts, former educator in Pea Ridge.

Board members agreed at the time that a committee should be formed to consider names.

At last month's board meeting, only one person had properly filled out the application to serve on the committee, two others had presented their names. The form requires a written paragraph stating the person's interest in the naming process. As of Tuesday, several people had turned in their names and/or applications to the administration office for consideration for the committee.

The school has grown from one campus for all 12 grades to four campuses. Currently each has been named according to the grades served there.

Other items on the agenda include:

◊Consideration of a resolution adopting the Hazard Mitigation Plan for Benton County;

◊Consideration of a policy concerning food service prepayment; and

◊An update on the new primary school.
